SOHAR Supports Local Community with 375 Vouchers for Families in Need

It was full steam ahead last week, as SOHAR Port and Freezone completed another successful ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of fuel oil. The delicate operation was conducted by one of the world’s leading marine cargo transfer companies, Fendercare Marine. Accredited by no less than ten national and international regulatory bodies, Fendercare handles around 2,800 transfers per year and has an immaculate safety record. In 2013, Fendercare managed close to half a billion barrels globally without incident.
SOHAR Port and Freezone also donated vouchers to families in need, last year. Speaking on the success of the month-long aid campaign, SOHAR Port CEO, Mr. Andre Toet said: “Ramadan is an extremely special time for charitable giving in Islam, it is also a time for understanding and compassion. Helping those in need is closely aligned with our commitment, here at SOHAR Port and Freezone, to creating a responsible and sustainable business which supports the local community.”

Families were selected from the Sohar and Liwa areas, based on household income. The final selection was made by the Wali’s Office in coordination with Social Development North Al Batinah Directorate. With an average of 7 people per household in the area, the campaign will effectively reach up to 2,625 individuals.

With a population of just 3.5 million people, Oman was regarded as the most-improved country in the last 40 years back in 2010 – ahead of China, Nepal, Indonesia, and neighbouring Saudi Arabia. As an integral part of plans to diversify the economy and create sustainable employment, SOHAR has brought 1,000 percent growth to the region in recent years as well as many skilled job opportunities.
