Steering Success in Auto Parts
SOHAR is on a fast track to becoming a significant regional automotive cluster –already handling over 200,000 vehicles annually. It is home to the Saud Bahwan Group’s pre-delivery and inspection centre for Toyota vehicles and at the heart of Suhail Bahwan Automotive and OTE’s distribution networks for Nissan, BMW and Hyundai. At the same time, SOHAR is already seeing success in serving two major regional markets with a high demand for automotive spare parts.
According to global consultancy firm Frost & Sullivan, while the sale of cars is set to record a compound annual growth rate of 6.0 % in 2012-2017, the sale of spare parts is expected to double by 2017 to US$13.46 billion. Two markets where SOHAR is preparing to expand are India and Saudi Arabia.
Ships from SOHAR are able to reach the west coast of Indian in two days through feeder services; and a new road scheduled to open by 2015 will directly connect Oman and Saudi Arabia, providing fast and reliable access for car shipments.
